THE MINE SWEEPERS
WINTER COMFORTS WANTED. The British and Foreign Sailors’ Society, London, have written to the executive of the New Zealand W.C.T.U. appealing for warm clothing for the mine-sweepers. The mine-sweepers do not belong to the Royal Navy or the Merchant Service and do not come within the scope of the benefits from the Red Cross, yet there is no type of man at the present time doing sterner or more dangerous work than these brave men who are helping to protect our fleet and merchant ships from the terrible floating mim. Being in small vessels they afe much exposed to the intense cold and require the wannest underclothing possible. The following articles are most required, and during the month of September, to be in time for the approaching Home winter:—Heavy underpants, heavy singlets, sox, Balaclavas, mufflers, and mittens. Donations of any of the above articles or money to purchase the same will be received at the office of this paper, and duly acknowledged. We have to acknowledge the following subscriptions :
