A REMARKABLE MOTOR EIDE

In these days when the motor car Is so universally known and used, it is not surprising that the advertisement appearing in the Southland Times, under the heading, "Remarkable Motor Ride,” inserted by the Dunlop Rubber Company, should occasion inquiries as to the make of car that put up this remarkable record. The car was a Chevrolet, some forty of which have been sold in Southland during the last few months by the local agents, Messrs A. Russell and Co. It is a light serviceable sturdy car, fitted with a remarkable snappy engine with the overhead type of valves. For speed and hill-climbing this little car has few rivals, the weight of the fiveseater is only fifteen hundred-weight, and no further proof of its durability is required than the recent record return run from Christchuch to Dunedin. Stating at 2 o’clock in the morning the Chevrolet arrived at Dunedin at 10.30 a.m. and got back to Christchurch at S p.m., all tools and gears being sealed with the exception of the high gear. The car made the double journey in fifteen hours nine minutes, notwithstanding that heavy fog considerably delayed progress, and also that several flocks of sheep were met on the road. In spite of the dark, fog, hills and watercourses, the car had not one involuntary stop, the speed at times was over fifty miles per hour, and the petrol consumed was under seventeen gallons, which works out at an average of twenty-nine miles per gallon. Messrs A. Russell and Co. Invite readers who are interested in this record and car to inspect tho Chevrolet at their garage in Dee street where they will find that the car is complete with electric starter, electric lights, and detachable rims. The price complete is £270. The new Dunlop White Tread Covers that were fitted to this car came through the gruelling with flying colours. Not only was there an absence of tyre trouble, but the tyres were, excepting for one or two superficial cuts, standing quite good.
