FATAL BLOW WITH A BOTTLE. (Per United Press Association.) HAMILTON, April 27. In the Magistrate’s Court this morning, before Mr Rawson, David Morgan Lcckie, alias Morgan, a one-armed man, was charged with, on or about April 16, at Hamilton, he did murder Albert Ryan, who was found in an unconscious condition with a fractured skull in the Frankton Junction Hotel, and died on the 18th. Senior-Sergeant Cassells represented the police, and accused was represented by Mr J. R. Lundon. The evidence was practically the same as at the inquest. Constable Maher, of Taumarunui, said he had taken a statement from the accused in which the latter alleged that deceased had assaulted him without provocation, and had kicked him when down. When in the hotel deceased made a savage blow, and in self defence he picked up what he took to be a soda water bottle and struck the deceased. The accused was committed for trial.
