Private advice has been received in Wellington, of the death at Melbourne of Mr Harold Ashton, the well-known theatrical manager for many years associated with J- C. Williamson. ■ Prpfessfr Clark, of Harvard University, has been appointed temporary Professor of Physics at Victoria College, Wellington, vice Professor Marsden, who has gone to the front. He is expected to arrive at the end of June. The Dunedin Times reports the death of Mr John Angus, manager of the New Zealand and Australian Land Company, at the age of 68 years. Mr Angus was born in Scotland, and in his early days received a sound training in one of the leading banking institutions in Scotland. He came to New Zealand in 1874, and from a date shortly after his arrival—fpr a period of over 40 years—he was connected with the New Zealand and Australian Land Company. For a number of years Mr Angus was employed in connection with the Clydevale Estate, but the greatest part of his business life was spent in the office of the company in Dunedin, and on the death of Mr Thomas Brydone, the superintendent of the company, he took charge of the business. Mr Angus was prominently associated with the Otago Agricultural and Pastoral Association, in which he filled, with great success, the office of honorary treasurer for many years. Very highly esteemed by those who knew him, Mr Angus will be remembered as a man of the loftiest character and highest integrity. For the past few months he had been under treatment for a heart affection. Last week he visited Hakataramea, where he suffered a heart attack, and another occurred on Tuesday, which terminated fatally early in the evening at his residence in George street. Ho leaves a widow, two sons, one of whom is on active service, and two daughters.
