RED CROSS BANDAGES.
To the Editor. Sir,—ln your locals 1 ' of Wednesday morniiiK, you have reference to a letter received by Mr Bernard Tripp, of Timaru, from Lieut.-colonel Parkes, head of the N.Z. Medical Corps in England, in which he stated that money instead of bandages was preferred, on the grounds that the cost of material was higher in New Zealand that at Home. This would be correct in normal times, hut we are assured by those competent to make the statement, that the present cost of the material in England is at least 10 to 12i per cent, higher, than the price it can he bought at in New Zealand. At the same lime, Lieut.-colonel Parkes evidently overlooks the fact that the bandages made by the various Red Cross Societies in New Zealand have been made by a body of willing workers. Unless the Home authorities have ample supplies of bandages, I would be sorry to see the other Red Cross Societies throughout the dominion discontinue this branch of the good work.—l am etc., H. L. BIRSS, .Secretary, Red Cross Society, Invercargill. March 8.
