FIRES

AN OUTBREAK IN LEVEN STREET. Shortly after 2 p.m. on Saturday the Fire Brigade was summoned to an outbreak of fire In Messrs G. W. Woods and Co.’s temporary garage in Leven street, but on arrival there found that the flames had been extinguished. It seems that one of the employees had been working on a motor car, and, owing to a short circuit, the petrol became ignited, the flames mounting to the coiling. A dose of "pyrene,” which was quickly administered, had the effect of subduing the blaze, and very little damage was done.
