RAILWAY ROLLING STOCK
(Per United Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, March 9. At the Railway Rolling Stock Commission to-day the Hon. A. M. Myers stated that he intended to recall John Valentine, who thought that he was the officer that was indicated as having supplied tbe information to Mr Wllford, M.P., which led to Mr Wllford making the statements in the House on the subject now being enquired into. Valentine desired to clear up the matter.
ABOUT PEOPLE A London cable reports the death of Count Zeppelin, the originator of Germany’s great airships. Lieut. Douglas M. Cuthbertson, N.Z. F.A., son of Mrs R. F. Cuthbertson, has been mentioned in despatches by Sir Douglas Haig, the list containing the names of those “submitted to the military authorities with a view to the recognition of services Involving great gallantry in the field or at the post of duty.” On Saturday, at the warehouse of Messrs Ross and Glendining, Ltd., prior to his departure for Trentham, Mr F. Pritchard was the recipient of a luminous wristlet watch and money belt from the employees of the firm. Mr J, Dunlop (manager), in making the presentation, referred to the many qualities of the departing member of the staff, as shown during his five and a half years' service, ami hoped he would return in safety to take up his former position. Sir Pritchard, who had previously enlisted and been turned down, was called in the ballot and passed fit by the Medical Board.
