RIVERTON FLOWER SHOW

The annual fixture of the Riverton Horticultural Society on Wednesday was a success in spite of the postponement from 21st February in order to avoid clashing with the Floral Gymkhana at Invercargill. The entries suffered of course, but in flowers, vegetables and baking, the show maintained the reputation of the town. The Secretary (Mr Joseph Robertson), is deserving of all praise. One of the .chief attractions was the collection of Maori and war curios, photographs of old identities of Southland, etc. The whole collection was left in the able hands of Mr E. J. Stevens, of Hekla, and he is to be complimented on the able way he had everything displayed. Mr J, C. Thomson, in an appropriate speech, declared the show open, and complimented the Society on the fine display. The proceeds are to be devoted to the Wounded Soldiers' Fund.
