Received March 8, 11.55 p.m. French communique: On the Verdun front our batteries caught enemy detachments on the northern outskirts of Malancourt Wood. German organisations at Kparges Wood were effectively bombarded. There have been lively artillery actions at Maisons de Champagne.

Estimates of the British line on the West front vary owing to it not being publicly known how far it extends beyond Koye. A French writer declares that the total length is over 150 miles*
