SALVATION ARMY

Captain McKenzie desires to thank the many friends of the Salvation Army in Invercargill for the generous help accorded in the appeal for funds for the erection of an up-to-date Sunday school and gymnasium in connection with the work of the Army in Invercargill. The captain set out to collect some £6OO, which was to be subsidised by £4OO from headquarters, Wellington. During the time the collecting was in progress the captain came in contact with some sterling friends of the Army, who helped with liberal donations, and lie also met others who though anxious to help the Army’s work yet felt the time was Inopportune, and strongly advised leaving the building until after the war. So Headquarters have decided, on the captain’s recommendation, on account of the great cost of building, to leave the building in abeyance until after the war. The amount of £376 now lies to the credit of the Sunday School building fund, together with the interest on the late Mr Cruickshank’s bequest, which brings the amount up to £400; and Captain McKenzie feels assured that as soon as the war Is over the raising of the balance of the money win be very easily accomplished. The captain mentions that the annual harvest festival is at present about to commence, and should any donor wish any donation ear-marked for any specific work of the Army in any place, they only need to mention the same to the collector. Any person desiring to do so can send donation direct to Captain McTfenrle. 33 Forth street.
