THE FEDERAL DISSOLUTION. GOVERNOR’S CONSENT GIVEN. STATEMENT BY _MR HUGHES. (By Telegraph—Press Assn. —Copyright) (Australian & N.Z. Cable Association.) MELBOURNE, March 6. Received March 6, 10.15 p.m. The Governor-General has accepted Mr Hughes’ advice to dissolve Parliament. Mr Hughes announced that the position now is that members of the House, and Senators retiring at the end of June, will proceed to the country forthwith.
The Government intends to ask Parliament for the necessary supply, and to make arrangements for the taking of soldiers’ votes abroad, and to deprive alien enemies of their votes. In the course of a lengthy statement Mr Hughes said that the people of Australia demanded representation at the Imperial Conference, and he can now disclose that the delegates had intended leaving to-night. THE N.S.W. ELECTIONS. LABOUR PARTY PLEASED. SYDNEY, March 6. The Secretary of the Political Labour League says the Labour party welcomes the Government’s decision to appeal to the country. The hideous nature of the dealings • exposed during the last few days threatened to place Australia in the unenviable position of occupying a place superior to New York ( in Tammany tactics. ;
