AUCKLAND COURT ITEMS

AUCKLAND, January 30

At the Police Court to-day, Albert McQueen and A. J. W. Roberts appeared on a charge of attempted prison breaking. McQueen was considered as being the ringleader, and was sentenced to lose marks equivalent to 12 months’ remission, Roberts to lose six months' marks. Both men were ordered to be placed on bread and water for 14 days, and to be kept In a separate division until further orders.

Lindsay Cooke, licensee of the Queen’s Ferry Hotel, was fined £25 for permitting shouting on his premises. A charge of consuming liquor, in respect of which the offence had' been committed, was withdrawn. A barmaid at the hotel was fined £2 for supplying the liquor.
