SYDNEY, January 29,
The annual convention of the Australian Workers’ Union carried a motion opposing representation at the Imperial Conference stating that it would result in Australia being governed by plutocrats in England.
MR HUGHES’ POSITION.
PREVENTING HIS GOING TO
LONDON
SYDNEY, January 29,
The Herald, in a remarkable leafier on the Federal political situation, expresses weariness of the finesse and intrigue preventing the formation of a national party, and declares that it is an organised attempt to prevent Mr Hughes going to London as the Commonwealth representatives. It has become apparent that influential Liberals are lending themselves to this unworthy scheming. It is even suggested that the Tudor forces have offered to give loyal support to the Liberals if they only consent to take over the Government and turn Mr Hughes out.
MR HUGHES MAY ATTEND,
SYDNEY, January 29, Received January 29, 9.5 p.m.
The Sun says that Mr Lloyd George’s interview altered Mr Hughes’ views and intentions, and has now good authority for stating that Mr Hughes expects to sail for London early in February.
