SOUTHLAND PATRIOTIC FUNDS

CHAIRMAN'S REMARKS. Mr H. W. Koyds, chairman of the Southland War Funds’ Association, in placing the audited statement of accounts before the committee at yesterday’s meeting, took occasion to review the various funds, and to compare th® work of the Association. Regarding the cost of administration, Mr Koyds said the salaries and general clerical expenses had amounted to £221 3/-, and other items had totalled £169 16/11, making in all £390 19/11. He compared this witli the Wellington Committee administering tiie AVounded Soldiers I und only, and where the salaries, according to the published balance-sheet, were £486 16/S; and other expenses brought the administrative expenses up to £763 14/10. Referring to the’Belgian Fund, Mr Koyds said that the average monthly income had dwindled down to £l4O, and as the quota from this province was £294, the whole fund would be depleted in six months unless subscriptions materially increased, or the General War Fund were drawn upon. With regard to the Soldiers and Dependents’ Fund, the income during the period had been 13360, including interest £l4ll, and the expenditure f 1782, so that up to the present not. a penny of the Queen Carnival monev had been touched. On the contrary some £3256 had been added to it, and, so far as the committee was aware, everv deserving case was receiving attention. Mr Royds intimated that the balance of funds in possession of the committee was £69,858 4/2, and that copies of the balance-sheet were available for the general public. Often members had spoken in approbation of the state of affairs, as outlined by the chairman, die balance-sheet was adopted on the motion of Dr Trotter and Mr A. Small (Dumsden).
