SOLDIERS FINANCIAL OBLIGATIONS
DISCUSSED BY WAR FUNDS COMMITTEE. The action to be taken by the War Funds Committee on behalf of Southland soldiers at present absent from New Zealand, and whose dpmestic circumstances are such as to bring them within the scope of the Government scheme for providing financial assistance, was discussed at yesterday’s meeting when it was resolved to communicate with the Minister of Defence, pointing out that a number of'voluntary recruits whose dependents were at present receiving financial assistance out of the patriotic funds had just cause to make application for State aid under the regulations referred to, and to ask whether the Minister would permit the committee to make representation on behalf of such soldiers. The chairman said that it, should be pointed out that the soldiers’ dependents would no doubt look to the committee to act in their interests in a matter of this kind, and on his suggestion it was decided to enquire as to whether, oh the Minister referring a claim to the Military Service Board for consideration, members of the War Funds Committee could appear before the Board in support thereof.
