SPORTING

NOTES BY SIR MODRED. A Christchurch telegram of yesterday’s states that Lady Louisa was scratched for the Winter Cup at 2.45 p.m. It transpires that on liis arrival in Sydney Kilboy will go into the charge of Mr M. Hobbs, who will prepare him for the A.J.C. Derby and other races. Once more the racecourse at Trentham is under the command of the military authorities, and all the buildings are in use. The W.R.C. appear to have been fortunate in getting off their current season's winter fixture. A. J. McFlinn has accepted the mount on Wiroklno for the N.Z. Grand National Steeplechase. The Aucklander has ridden the son of Conqueror in his last four starts, winning on three occasions, and being second in the other. El Gallo is a regular attendant at Ellerslie, despite the fact that he has no immediate engagements. He is being kept in steady work. Both J. O’Shea and B. Deeley have finished their engagements fbr the season, O'Shea winding up with a total of 75 wins, and Deeley with OS. In connection with the cross-country jockeys’ premiership A. J. McFlinn disputes F. Flynn's lead of one win, but all doubts may be set at rest with the Amberley meeting this week, where McFlinn will be riding under special orders for Mr G. L. Stead. It was the original Intention that MoFlinn should go across to Melbourne to steer Tim Doolan at Flcmlngton and Caulfield, but ills employer has work for him at- the Brackenfleld Hunt gathering on Thursday.
