Of Mr J. R. Mackenzie, late of Glenkenich Estate, Pomahaka, Otago, who died suddenly at his residence Glenroy, Victoria, on Saturday, it may be said that during the past generation there were few stud masters more widely known in the Fouth Island than Mr Mackenzie. To Mr Mackenzie belonged the distinction of having selected and brought to New Zealand the Clydesdale stallion Karon Fold, now Mr .lames Patrick’s stud horse at Heo Creek, A\ est Taieri It is generally acknowledged that to the late Captain V. W. Mackenzie and his son, Mr John R. Mackenzie who succeeded him, is mainly duo tho fact that in the Tapanui and ajoinmg districts are to he found many ..f the best Romney Marsh sheep and certainly the h“St crossbred sheep in the dominion and the same districts have long been famous for the excellence of the breed of Clydesdale horses to be found therein. It was because of ill-health that he dispersed the studs at Glenkenich, and the same cause led him to seek the warmer climate of Victoria. Mr Mackenzie is survived by Ids wife, a daughter of the late Mr Janus Hogan, of Greenville Estate. Kelso.
