GRAIN TRAFFIC

LAST WEEK’S RETURNS

The grain traffic over the Southland section of the New Zealand railways continues high, doubtless owing to the sudden rise in oats of some weeks ago. Last week’s figures were a few sacks in excess of those for the previous week, and well over three times those for the corresponding period of last year. Following is a table showing the number of sacks carried each day;—

191 r>. 1916. sacks. sacks. Monday .... 2.407 903 Tuesday .. .. 1,651 719 Wednesday .. 2,297 1,332 Thursday .. 1,605 969 Friday .. .. 4,058 653 Saturday . .. 5,137 617 Totals .... 17,155 5,193 Totals to date 683,151 472,755
