SOUTHLAND ACCLIMATISATION SOCIETY

MONTHLY MEETING. The usual monthly meeting of the Council of the Southland Acclimatisation Society was held last evening when there were present:—Messrs Stock (chairman), Stevens, Sloan, Watson, McKenzie, Crofts, Egglestone, Clark, Robertson, Wilson, Rabbldge and Strang. Apologies for absence were received from Messrs Stout, Russell, Haggltt, Moffett and Tapper. A considerable quantity of routine work was dealt with, and the Ranger’s, Curator’s and Stock Committees’ reports were- adopted. The balance-sheet showed a credit balance of £215 16s, and after accounts amounting to £l9 3s 4d had been passed for payment. Following is the Stock Committee’s report:— Arrangements have been made to supply the New Zealand Government Fisheries Department with 23)0,000 eyed ova at 5s per thousand. Delivery to various places Is expected to commence the first week in August. Arrangements for this are in hand. Shipment of the 100,000 eyed, ova to the State Fisheries Department, Sydney, will be made from Lyttelton on Wednesday, 26th inst. During the month permission was given to the Ranger to set traps in Stewart’s Creek which he has Just discovered in our territory, and from which he hopes to get good results. A few fish have already been taken, but the main run has not yet taken place. Arrangements have been completed with the Canterbury Society for the exchange of 100,000 eyed ova,
