NATIONAL DANGER.

To the Editor.

Sir, —Vour article in this morning's Times gives elderly people like myself serious thought. It Is a sad fact which wc have to admit that, particularly in large cities, women sell themselves to men for money Physical desires in young men are so strong that when the opportunity exists, it is hard to resist the temptation available for money. Providence intended that one woman should have one man It does not seem quite right of nature to permit one man—if it was possible to arrange for one man to sleep ton nights eonsecutively if he had strength to do so, with ten respectable. women without doing himself or the woman any injury—whereas if one woman allowed a different man each night for ten nights to sleep with her, each of them would become, diseased. Every man after the second person would be affected, each one after the third person, more seriously than his predecessor. I am afraid young men don’t think of this danger. It is clear enough that some of our soldiers have risked the chance of contracting these sad diseases. Having lived in a country district in this dominion since 1 was eighteen years old 1 have not had to submit to temptation. 1 warned a relative of the dangers of Cairo. He wrote from there that the temptation was terrible. If the men wont to get a glass of wine, women would talk to them, squeeze their arms gently, and kiss them. We must not blame New Zealand country lads under such temptation. The amazing part is, how girls could drift into such a terrible course of life. They must suffer pain and inconvenience from disease. Liquor, of course, is at the bottom of it all. It is an unpleasant subject, but must be faced.—l am, etc., CITIZEN. 17th July, 1916.
