I’AT RIOT 1C WORK, (From Our Own Correspondent.) On Friday last a very pleasing function took place in the Mossburn Public Hall. The ladies of the Mossburn branch of the Red Cross Society invited the public to a euchre party that they might give a report of the work done during their first six months of work. After supper, Mrs Chewings, in the absence of the secretary said: "We have invited you here to-nigtit that we might have a pleasant evening together, also that w<- might give you an idea of what work we have done, and how wo have spent the money you have so generously supplied us with. We do not only meet to drink tea and gossip, hut mostly to work. We have, already sent to our centre (Invercargill) Kl3l articles, including 38 pairs of sox. and also about 20 pairs of sox to tlie Patriotic Society. From these numbers you will see that we have been busy with our fingers as well as our tongues. Tlie forty members present at our first meeting decided to subscribe is monthly. This, with your generous contributions, lias enabled us to work independently of our head. in March wc had a special appeal from Dunedin for comforts for tlie Mesopotamia Hospital, to which we sent B! 10s for three cases of milk. In May we donated £5 for tlie purchase of blankets, after paying for the niaterlat we owned, and we put the balance of the flag money into the Savings Bank, so that wc still have a little to come and go on.
During the evening the ladles did good work at a small stall of useful and fancy articles and produce, from which the funds of the Society benefited to the extent of 1 15.
