SOUTHLAND WAR FUNDS ASSOCIATION

“DOMINION” GIFT FARCERS. The first consignment of soldiers' gift parcels was sent off on Friday, and consisted of 507 parcels of varied character packed in 20 cases. They will be forwarded to London and distributed amongst the men in the trenches through the agency of the N. Z. War Contingent Association, and organisation which has performed a vast amount of useful work for file men and consists of New Zealanders resident at Home. In each case is placed an envelope addressed to "the distributor." containing a memorandum which states that the parcels are the gifts of the ladies of the aboVenamcd Association. Alessrs W. Craig and Co. have kindly presented a large number of printed donors’ cards. The name of each subscriber of 2/6 is written upon one of these cards, whicti is placed in a parcel. It is, therefore, probable that in due course some of thase who have so contributed will receive a post card or other message from some grateful recipient. Parcels and goods were received from the following: Waianiwa branch of the War Funds Association (3 parcels and articles for the transport parcels); Bluff branch (20 tins milk, 2 tins cocoa, 20 tins sweets, 20 handkerchiefs, 20 pairs laces), Otautau Ladies' Committee (6 pairs socks), Lochiel School (33 tins sweets, 2 tins salmon, 3 tin milk, 1 tin cocoa, 3 tin sardines), Alenzios lerrj School (2 tins milk, 1 tin cocoa, 2 tins coffee, 7 tins sweets), Fairfax School (1 parcel). West Plains School (3 tins cocoa, 1 cake soap), Wallacetown School (3 bags apricots, 6 tins milk, 3 packets eucalyptus, 2 pairs socks, J tooth brushes, 4 sticks liquorice, 6 cakes soap, 3 tins sardines, 3 tins cocoa, 2 tins insect powder, 3 tins sweets, 1 bottle Bovril, 1 meat extract, 2 tins soup, 1 packet Seidlitz powders, 2 tins cafe au lait, 6 writing tablets), Mrs E. R. Godward (complete parcel), Mrs M. Thompson (1 cushion and 3 infants’ bonnets, for sell--10 At the Gifts’ Depot at the Invercargill branch in Tay street, contributions were received from the following and cards were included in the July quota of parcels —Mrs G. C. A. Todd, Mrs Oswln, Alias Fahey, Mrs J. R. Martin, Mrs J. T. Martin, Airs W. H. Sebo, Airs Galbraith (2), Mrs Clark, Mrs J. Whittaker, Miss Muriel Whittaker, Nurse Pay. Mrs W. E. Taylor, Airs C. S. Pasley, Mrs Glrdler, Mrs Spence (2). As the result of a “trench afternoon and evening” held by Mrs Geo. F. Klngsland the following gifts were obtained, and were packed in the parcels:—Three tins coffee and milk, 5 tins milk, 7 tins sardines, 4 boxes chocolates. 5 cakes soap. 1 bottle meat extract, 3 tins cocoa, 2 pack cards, 9 packets chewing gum, 1 stick liquorice, 1 pipe, 2 cards buttons, 10 tins cigarettes, 3 tins tobacco, o packets cigarettes, 1 packet Keatings powder, 1 writing tablet, 1 scarf, 16 handkerchiefs, 2 Balaclavas, and •> packets soap. . , , ... , , Other gifts were received from the lou lowing’ M rs Berry, 2 pairs socks and 2 helmets; Mrs Turpin, 1 pair mittens; Mrs T. Macdonald, 2 pairs socks, T.ne Girls High School, 10 scarves, 3 pairs socks. 1 helmet. 3 pairs mittens, 1 pair cuffs 2 tins fruit. 4 packets chocolate, 6 packets soap, 1 tin sardines, 18 packets cigarettes, 5 tins milk, 1 tin cafe au lait, 1 tin cocoa, 1 oaks soap, 1 box writing paper and envelopes); Miss Nellie Movers’ gift party: 5 tins milk. 2 tins cocoa 1 tin butter nuggets. 2 packets chocolate, 2 tins cigarettes, S cakes soap, l packet tooth paste. 1 tooth brush, .. lace cloths.
