The Prime Minister, wires our correspondent, is still confined to bod, but is making favourable progress. Mr Allen is also still confined to his room, and will not return to his duties until Thursday at the earliest.
Mr R. B. Brett has been appointed manager of the Seaward Downs Dairy Factory. Mr Brett has been engaged for three seasons at the Mataura Factory. and prior to coming to Mataura was employed in the cheese industry in Uio North Island. The, Rev. W. Ready has received an invitation from the officials and circuit stewards of the East Belt Church, Christchurch, to return after next conference. Mr Ready, who had a very happy and successful five years' pastorate at the East Belt Church some seven years ago, has declined the invitation. Mr U. K. McMillan, Chief Forester of British Columbia, who is enquiring, on behalf of the Canadian Government, into the methods of marketing timber in various parts of the. world, will leave Sydney this week for New Zealand, to continue iiis investigations. Mr J. G. Findlay, of Invercargill, has been selected out of ten applicants for tlie position of dispenser at the Wanganui Hospital. Mr Findlay, who is a qualified chemist, went to Gallipoli as an artilleryman in the New Zealand Main Ex. peditionary Force, being subsequently invalided home.
Mr F. V. Piper, accountant for the Timaru branch of the National Mortgage and Agency Co., lias been appointed manager of the Company’s branch at Dumaru to succeed Mr W. 11. Rose, who is retiring from the Company's service. Mr Piper is well-known in Invercargill, having been some few years back connected with the local branch of the Company.
.Driver Ashley Rennie, who lias been down from Fcatherston on final leave, was visited at iiis residence by a surprise party of friends, and from them received several useful presentations. During the evening Driver Lennle gave an interesting account of life at Featherston, after which music and games were indulged in. Driver Rennie, who is a member of the artillery section •of the 15th Reinforcements, is a son of Mr .1. A. Rennie, of Waikiwi.
