NEWSPAPER PROPRIETORS

AWUAL CONFERENCE. (Per United Press Association.) ROTORUA, February 22. At the annual meeting of the Newspaper Proprietors' Association, Mr Selig presided over a large attendance from all parts of the dominion. The meeting passed votes of appreciation at the action of newspaper employees who went to the front, and sympathy with the relatives of those who have fallen. The President, in his address, referred at length to the difficulties in connection with supplies of paper, emphasising the seriousness of the position, the question of extra freight on paper, and the increased charges for press telegrams. Regarding paper supplies lie pointed out that many offices were short of supplies and the position was getting more acute daily. A very heavy agenda paper was gone through, and it was decided to consider the question of paper supplies at a special meeting on Wednesday evening. Mr Selig was re-elected president; Mr F. Hyman, vice-president: Mr J. S. Berry, secretary and treasurer. A vote of thanks was passed for hospitality to the Association’s delegates at the World’s Press Congress at San Francisco. It was decided to invite members of the Press Congress at Sydney in 191S to visit New Zealand, and to request the Government to grant them facilities to travel in tite dominion.
