DISLOYAL UTTERANCES
OLD WOMAN IMPRISONED. (Per United Press Association.) PALMERSTON NORTH, Feb. 11As a sequel to an occurrence at the railway station some weeks ago Ellen Fuller was charged before Mr Poynton, S.M., at the Magistrate's Court this morning, that Uhe did publish on January 19th last a statement to this effect: "It is always the same with you Britishers. King Georg© is a . When the Kaiser comes he will have the lot of you slaughtered. The Kaiser is lord and master.’’ The accused failed to appear or b« represented by counsel. The charge was made under the War Regulations Act, 19X4. Evidence was given by John Stanbrook, railway porter. He stated that accused was not drunk at the time bat was very excited. He heard the language complained of. In reviewing the facts of the case Sergeant Hendry informed the Court that the accused was a Norwegian by birth, and had been resident in the dominion for forty years. She was 70 years of age. In imposing a penalty of two months’ imprisonment, his Worship observed that the case was not one for a fine. It was an illustration of gross ingratitude. Accused was no doubt well treated in this British dominion and enjoyed all the privileges of citizenship. Her utterances were abominable. The case was one for a severe penalty, and showed the necessity for strict dealing.
