THE AUCKLAND MURDER

STILL REMAINS A MXSTERY. NO CLUE TO THE PERPETRATOR. (Per United Press Association.) AUCKLAND, February 21. No further light was thrown upon the mystery surrounding the murder of Horatio Ramsden on Mount Eden on January 22, at the inquest held to-day. A r arious witnesses testified to seeing or hearing a man run out of a clump of trees, where the deceased was found stabbed to death. The Coroner said that at the present state of the inquiry there was only one possible finding, and that was that deceased was murdered by some person or persons unknown. A shocking murder occurred on 22nd January at Auckland about nine o’clock, when Horatio Heywood Frechenvillo Ramsden, aged 25 years, a waterside worker, was found stabbed in eleven places in Hillside Crescent, Mt. Eden. The body was found under a clump of trees by the footpath. The discovery was made by diaries Niccolls, who heard cries for help. He went to investigate in company with his aunt, and saw a man run from the trees and make off. On entering the trees the body was found covered with blood, life being then extinct. Dr Bull, who made sin examination, said that the man had been dead about a quarter of an hour. There were eleven knife wounds in the chest and a contused wound on the top of the head, and the victim's hands each bore a deep cut as if he had tried to ward off the blows. The wounds indicated that the assault had been of a most savage nature. Niccolls, whoso house was quite near to the scene of the murder, had just left his house when he heard cries for help. The cries were also heard by his aunt, who was on the verandah of the house. They both walked towards the clump of trees, and as they went a man dressed in dark clothing, dashed out and ran for the main road. Niccolls then entered the clump of trees to investigate, where lie found the body of deceased.
