A MURDER CHARGE

ACCUSED AOQUITTED. (Per United Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, February 10. At the Supreme Court to-day Mary Ann Reid was charged with tile murder of her two infant illegitimate children at Hornby. Mr Cunningham, for the defence, intimated that he would rely on a plea of instanity. After evidence for the prosecution had been heard, Air Justice Stringer said he would not call on the defence. There was no evidence to show that the children had ever breathed after birth. He directed the jury to return a verdict of “Not guilty.” A verdict was given accordingly.
