RED CROSS SOCIETY

The ordinary meeting of the executive was held' ou Wednesday afternoon, and in view of the fact that country centres are beginning to form branches and wish for information re garments and organisation, it was decided that Mrs Miller, with one of the cutters, should be the visiting delegates. in tins connection a suggestion was made that any one possessing a motor might be willing to convey delegates to the country and thus assist in the work of the lied Cross. Centres have been started at Wyndham, Edendale, Winton, Mossburn, Bluff, and it is only a question of time when other districts will he beginning. Owners of cars willing to assist might notify any member of the executive of their intention and the favour will be duly appreciated. Thursday was fixed for holding a meeting at Riverton, Mr R. A. Anderson kindly offering to convey the delegates, Mrs Miller and Miss Fynes Clinton, and Hie following Thursday it was decided to visit Dipton.

?diss Bedford, on behalf of the Collec. Rons’ Committee, reported that arrangements were well in hand for the Red Cross Day, the date of which is not yet fixed.

In other centres funds have been raised by "a chain" of afternoon teas, and the Mayoress intends to set the ball rolling by a large afternoon tea in Victoria Hall and doubtless other ladies will follow her example.

The Collections’ Committee, by kind permission of the manager of Hallenstein’s buildings, have obtained the use of a notice board inside thc.Esk street door where in future notices and dates of meetings, gntertainroents, etc., in aid of the Red Cross Society, will be posted up.

Communications re French Red Cross' day were received from the Patriotic Committee, and it was agreed that the Red Cross Society should hold February 2G as French Red Cross.Day. 'The other centres are taking the 25th, but it was thought that Saturday would be the better day. Flowers, sweets, badges, etc., will be sold on the-streets and collection boxes will be in the charge of collectors. It was felt that would be no difficulty in getting money for this object, which must commend itself to the hearts of all, for when it is remembered the kindness shown to our Empire’s soldiers in France such an opportunity of our gratitude can hardly fail to commend itself to all. Letters were received from the Dunedin branch acknowledging the last box sent and the excellence of the contents. Mrs R. Taylor, on account of her health, asked to be relieved from the many duties she has undertaken in connection with the Society and a motion expressive of regret was passed, and that she be asked if possible to continue as cutter.

Mrs Hide resigned as manager, and a vote of thanks for tbe good work she had done in connection with furnishing the room was passed. Miss I. Thomson was appointed buyer, Mrs Curie storewoman, and Miss Fyncs Clinton supervisor. Mrs W. Gilchrist and Miss Hardie were elected to fill vacancies on the executive.

Tuesday afternoon was fixed by the packers as the time most suitable for this work.

The different centres are asked to assist in making the window display on Red Cross Day a success, and to each centre has been allotted special sample garments for exhibition. Matson, <s after sale from garden party; a friend, four nightingales: Mrs Griffiths, twentyone diet and thirty-one medicine cloths; Jessie Todd, scarf and four pair of socks: Mrs Hide, three hags; Lumsden. one. parcel for ambulance department; Mossburn, two large parcels of goods and garments.
