Campbell, agent. The New Zealand Shipping Company’s chartered s.s. Arrino, lIS 1 tons gross register, left Lyttelton at noon on Friday, and is due at Bluff this afternoon. She completes her loading for London at Bluff, where she takes about 9000 bales of wool, including most of the woolbu yers’ purchases at the Invercargill auctions of 14 th January. The Kinross, loading case oil for the Vacuum Oil Company at New York, is reported to he commencing taking loading operations during this month. She should arrive at her first Now Zealand port during the latter week of April.

The Paloona is_ duo at Bluff on Tuesday from Melbourne, via Hobart. She will sail on Monday night for Melbourne and Hobart, via Cook Strait. During the course of a recent conversation, one of Sydney’s best-known shipping men gave a striking illustration of the remarkable increase in chartering rates. A few years ago the firm he represents had a vessel on a lengthy time charter at £1075 per month, and in a letter from the captain, received by the last mail, he learns that the vessel is under engagement in the Trans-Atlantic trade at £6700 per month. Cabled advice announces tho arrival at Vancouver last Saturday of the K.M.S. Jlakura from Auckland, via Suva and Honolulu. Tho vessel is to leave the British Columbian port to-day on the return trip to Auckland, at which port «he should arrive on the 6th March.

It is announced that the steamer Cyrena, 213S tons (Captain .Tones) is to leave Singapore in about a fortnight's time with a cargo of case oil for -Auckland, Napier, Wellington, and Lyttelton. The Cyrena is due in \\ cllington about the end of -March, and has some 30,000 cases of oil to discharge there. Word has been received by cable to the effect that the Kimutaka left Capetown on Thursday last in continuation of her voyago from London to New Zealand ports, via Hobart. Two factors contribute towards making the stay in Wellington of the tramp steamer Talawa, from New Aork, one of especial interest, not only to the local shipping fraternity, but also to that large body of citizens who find in the waterfront a never-ending soutcd of interest. The first is that the Talawa was formerly the Hamburg-owned steamer Wotan, built in .1007 by William Doxford and Sons, of Sunderland, and seized shortlv after the outbreak of hostilities hy the British authorities. Further, she is of peculiar construction, being a tur-ret-decked vessel, a typo rarely seen in these waters; during the past year not more than three turret steamers have visited Wellington, viz., the tramp steamer Clan Farquhar, from Now York; the Union Co.'s well-known collier Koromeko. and the Talawa itself. The Talawa's commander. Captain Beighton, is well-known in New Zealand as a former officer of the Union Co. s service. expected at bluff.
