SHIPPING

BLUFF HARBOUR. There were no shipping movements at this port yesterday. Advices have been received stating that the steel ship Isle of Arran, well known in Australian waters, has been sold to British buyers for £14,000, which equals nearly £S per ton. and comes very near to what she cost to build. The local office of the F. and S. Line advises that the new steamer Devon left Sydney on Saturday for Tokomaru Bay. From there she proceeds to Gisborne and Napier, being due in Wellington about the 2Sth February. The Bssex also loft Sydney on Saturday for Auckland, and should reach Wellington on the 27th inst. after visiting other ports in the North. By tlie mail steamer Medina, leaving Melbourne on February 22, the first apples for the season will be shipped to London. German liners formerly specialised in refrigerating space for perishable products, and when these were excluded by the war, it was feared that there would be a troublesome shortage of space. By the exercise of forethought, however, and the adjustment of all seasonal cargoes it has been found possible to make satisfactory arrangements for the transport of this year’s crop. In view of the near approach of the shipping season a definite announcement of the Imperial Government’s intentions in respect to the fresh fruit trade is awaited with more than ordinary intrest.
