Todd and Co., instructed by the Borough of Invercargill, offered for sale by public auction the undermentioned leaseholds for a term of fourteen years from March 1, 1916. The majority of leaseholds were again secured by the present tenants, and in no instance was the upset annual rental exceeded. The quantity on offer so far lias been small, and consequently there is not much business to report. Potatoes —We quitted a few freshly dug at our sale to-day at £7 10/- per ton. which may he regarded a-s about top ruling price. Supplies are not coming forward freely, and all consignments arriving in‘good sound condition are readily placed. Fair sales have also been made for forward delivery. We quote: Good to best £7 to £7 10/- per ton (sacks included). Chaff —Moderate supplies are coming forward. The local demand is not keen, but all good to prime lines can he placed at quotations. Inferior lots are not in request. We quote: Best oaten sheaf, £5 2/0 to £5 7/6; medium to good, £4 10/to £5; inferior light and discoloured, £3 5/- to £4 5/- per ton (bags extra). HIGH COMMISSIONER'S CABLE. (Per United Press Association.) WELLINGTON, February 14. The High Commissioner cables (quotations, unless otherwise specified, arc for average market prices on spot):— Meat.—-There is a good demand for all descriptions of mutton and iamb and prices are advancing on account of the decrease in the amount of home-killed, together with the small supply of frozen meat available for the general public. Mutton. —Canterbury, T'lgd for lightweight: medium, 7tid; other brands than Canterbury not quoted officially. There are only a few selling at 7%d for best quality light-weight. Ewes, average price, 7 l-16d. Lamb. —Canterbury, Sd for all weights; second grade, 7Tsd; other brands than Canterbury, Sd for best quality; ordinary quality, 7 ;id. Beef. —Only New Zealand cow beef is available; binds, 6’/..d; fores, s lid. Chilled in moderate supply, hinds, 7'id; fores, 6’ pi. Butter. —Tile market is quiet but firm. The Danish market is firm with an upward tendency, JSS/- to 162/-. New Zealand spot, market very firm. The Mamari's butter is not yet available. Cheese. —The market is quieter; Canadian white arc not pressing; FehruaryApril shipment of Manila, new graded fair, £55 10/-. For New Zealand the market is quiet, hut steady at last quotations. Dominion offerings are verv small. The stock on tlie 31st January was till hales. Wheat.—There is a firm market, and prices have advanced; Australian wheat Of.'-, sailers; steamer, fit),/-; Argentine, February shipment, 67/9; American .stiiler, 69/-; Canadian and coloured, 97/-; United States eheddar shapes, 96/- to 97/-; Mats, 95/- to 96/-; Englisti Cheddar, 102/- to 104/-; Cheshire, 111/- to ns/-.

Hemp—Manila is rather less active this week owing to heavy receipts. The output from Manila for the week ended 12th inst. was 25,000 hales, and the estimate for the next two weeks is 32,000 bales. The freight difficulty is still active, and sellers 67/-. Direct American anil Canadian offers are scarce on account of the freight difficulty. Oats.—The demand has improved, though still small. Offers are scarce. Argentine alloat, 3.1/6 to 32'6, according to position. Hops.—The market is quiet and prices firm; English, 130 '- to 150 '-; Californian, 95 - to 115,'-. These quotations tire for 1916. Wool—The market remains firm.
