LOST POSITIONS RECAPTURED COUNTER-ATTACKS REPULSED PARIS, February 12. Received February 13, 5.5 p.m. Communique; After we regained a notable portion of the French positions captured south of Frise, the enemy, by a violent counter - attack, attempted to drive us out. Our curtain of fire stopped the enemy dead, and they suffered important losses. ALLIES HAVE THE UPPER HAND. ENEMY EPPORTS UNAVAILING. PARIS, February 12. Received February 13, 11.5 p.m. Communique: Our artillery and machine gun tire frustrated the cnAuy’s attempts to cross tDo Yser Canalrfliear Steanstraate and Hethas. There lias been great artillery activity in Champagne. The enemy penetrated a small salient on the line between Navarin and Saint Souplet roads. A counter-attack on portions of the trendies which we occupied on Friday north-east of the Butte de Mcsnil was repulsed. We further progressed with hand grenades eastward of these positions. TEE ENEMY REPULSED. LONDON, February 12. Received February 13, 11.5 p.m. Sir Douglas Haig reports that the enemy early to-day broke into our trenches near Pilckem, hut were driven out.
