SHORTAGE OF DOCTORS
SUGGESTION TO IMPORT AMERICANS THE GOVERNMENT'S INTENTION. (Per United Press Association.) WELLINGTON, February S. The suggestion that American doctors should be imported into New Zealand to fill some of tlie vacancies that have been caused by the war was mentioned again to-day by the Minister for Public Health, who said lie had noticed-that some medical men were perturbed at the idea of doctors being brought into the country from the United States. He would like to reassure them as to the position. The conditions governing the admission of doctors to practice in New Zealand were governed by the Medical Practitioners’ Act of 1914, which provided that before doctors could practice their profession here must prove their possession of certain qualifications. The Government had not the least intention of allowing any men who did not possess these qualifications to go upon the medical register of the dominion. He had merely supplied the information asked by an American University.
