NEW FREEZING WORKS

OPENED AT POVERTY BAY. (Per United Press Association.) GISBORNE, February S. The Poverty Bay farmers’ freezing works was opened at Kaiterathi, a thousand townspeople journeying to the junction. The foundation stone was laid on August 26 and the erection of the works within six months is claimed to be a dominion record. Mr Lysnar, chairman of directors, mentioned that one of the first actions of the company was to inform the. Imperial authorities of the establishment of the works and their importance in relation to maintaining food supplies. The authorities readily consented to place the material and plant in the same category as war material. Thus the company obtained despatch, whilst the plants for other works started twelve months before have only reached the docks at Home and have been commandeered. The works have at present a capacity of itiOO sheep dally. Their ultimate full capacity is -4000 sheep a day.
