OBITUARY

AIR ANDREW KINROSS. The death, at the age of SO years, occurred yesterday morning of Mr Andrew Kinross, who had taken a prominent .part. in public life from the early days of Southland. Air Kinross was horn in Glasgow in IS2O, and after leaving school tools a position in a lawyer's office, and followed other occupations subsequently until IS4S, when he left for Australia. He arrived in Geelong, where lie was married, in 1.555. In JStb's the deceased arrived at Port Chalmers, and afterwards removed to Invercargill. He, became a, member of the Southland Provincial Council in TStiO, a.nd also ot the Executive Council. Hi IS7II lie was elected a member of the Otago Provincial Council, and continued in office until it was abolished in tSTR. Air Kinross was appointed a member of the Southland Land Board for two years in IS7S, was i e-appointed in ISBS, and had been a member continuously from that time until a few years ago, when be retired. During his activity in public matters the deceased carried on a, farm at Alyross Basil, which he sold a number of years ago. He had made several attempts to enter political life after the abolition of provincial government, but bad failed, though successful in securing a seat on the Southland County Council as representative of the VVaihopai riding. Air Kinross was a man of exceptional energy, and vitality, was 1 very advanced in his views when he arrived in New Zealand, and up till only a few years before his deatli took an active part in public affairs. Some years ago he published a book entitled "My Life and Lays,” in which he gave a sketch of his life, describing its pleasures and disappointments, and the deceased was also a frequent contributor of verse to the local press. Air Kinross, who was predeceased by his wife a number of years ago, is survived by a grown-up family.
