Received July 28, 12.40 a.m. A committee of the Privy Council will he advised by the scientists appointed to assist scientific investigations bearing on trade and industry to enable the Empire to compete successfully with highly organised rivals, AUSTRALIAN MECHANICS NOT NEEDED AT BRITISH MUNITIONS WORKS SYDNEY, July 27. Received July 27, 10.25 p.m. Mr Dengale, secretary of the Amalgamated Engineers, states that he has been informed by the secretary of the English Society of Engineers, that Vickers, Son and Maxim have withdrawn their offer to pay the passages of Australasian engineers.
