SERIOUS RIOTING REPORTED. MANY" SHOTS EXCHANGED. (By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright) NEW YORK, July 24. Received July 25, 5\25 p.m. Serious rioting has occurred in connection with the strike at the Standard oil works. Four strikers were killed and numbers wounded. Skirmishing between the guards and the crowds took place, th'e strikers replying with revolver volleys. Powerful searchlights helped to keep the rioters in check, but sniping continued throughout the night. Early in the morning a score of strikers tried to reach the wall of the works with oilsoaked waste, intending to burn them down, but the guards fired and two men fell. Hundreds of shots were exchanged. Later another batch tried to approach with fifty pounds of dynamite. The guards opened fire and drove them back. The sheriff has asked the Government to call out the troops. The strikers demand fifteen per cent. advance in wages, and the manager has announced that they must return to their places and work four days before he will grant a conference.
