At the inquest on Mrs Stern a verdict of wilful murder was returned against Lawis. Both the victims were Russians.

A tragedy occurred in Riley street Sydney, on .luce 1. A tailor named Harry Lewis shot his landlady, Mrs Annie Stern, and then himself. Both died. Jealousy was the cause. The tragedy was the finale of frequent quarrels arising out of Mrs Stern resenting his ■undesired attentions.
