INDIA'S WHEAT
DISCUSSION' IN' THE COUNCIL. (By Telegraph.—Press Assn. —-Copyright) DELHI. March 22. In the Legislative Connell a resolution was moved providing for the prohibition of the export of wheat until the price fell euuivalent to Hid per I7lbs. Mr Clarke, a member of the Viceroy's Council, announced that the Government proposed to assume control of the export trade on the following lines: That no wheat be exported save on the Government's account, from April 1 next to March 31. Hi 1(5. The leading export wheat linns will employ agents to hue. on commission, at the prices indicated by (lie Government, and the Government will take the profit, which will ho represented by the difference between the world's and the Indian prices, the latter being kept up artificially. The price at which the Government will commence buying has not been announced, but it will be relatively high compared with the prices to bo offered later. The Government hopes in this way to bring prices steadily and surely down, the prices, in effect, being regulated through the export trade in the interest of the consume!'.
