AMALGAMATION OF TRADE SOCIETIES. LONDON, July 9. Received July 9, 10.30 p.m. The conference of trade unions affiliated to the General Labourers’ National Council and the Transporters’ Federation resolved to form one union of an estimated membership of 400,000. A ballot will be taken. SEAMEN’S UNION. TO BE RE-ORGANISED. WELLINGTON, July 9. A conference of the various New Zealand branches of the Seamen’s Union will be opened at Auckland on Monday for the purpose of considering the advisability of re-organising the Seamen’s Federation and of making the rules of the different branches uniform. The proceedings are expected to last several days. Messrs W. T. Young and H. Richards, the Wellington delegates, leave for Auckland on Saturday. THE AFTERNOON SHIFT. SYDNEY. July 9. The prosecutions against the striking Maitland miners have been postponed for a. week in view of the conference of parties now proceeding with the object of reaching a settlement.
