The Mokoia arrived at S am. yesterday from Dunedin. Her inward cargo comprised 256 pieces timber, 320 boxes butter. 30 cases cement. 16 coils wire. 876 bags rice. 16 do. coffee beans. 16 cases fruit. 12 hogsheads and 43 cases ale, 25 cases whisky. 14 coils rope. 10 hales hops. 15 cases benzine. She sailed yesterday afternoon for Melbourne via Hobart, taking 176.000 ft timber. 60 tons scenery. 200 bags oysters and 200 cases fish. The Star of Australia was expected to Bail from New York on Monday for Wellington, via Australian ports and Auckland. The Hawke’s Bay was to get away from London the* same day for Weliington. via Melbourne. Sydney, Auckland, and Napier. Advice has been received to the effect that the R.M.S. Marama was despatched ■from Vancouver at noon on Wednesday last for Auckland, via Honolulu and Suva. She has on board 130 passengers for all ports, while her cargo for New Zealand amounts to 450 tons, of which 160 tons are for ports other than Auckland. The Marama is due at the northern port on the 30th June. Advice has been received that the Willochra, whicli has resumed in the San Francisco srvice after having been for some time on the inter-colonial run. reached San Francisco on Thursday due date. The Willochra left Wellington on the 2nd May at 10.40 p.m.. and took the Governor and party as Raratonga. She is due to leave San Francisco for Wellington and Sydney, ■via ports, on the 24th inst.. and is expected at Wellington on the 6th July. The two power lifeboats to be carried hv the new Canard liner Aquitania have been constructed by Messrs J. I Thornpvcroft and Co., and will be carried on the boat deck. Each boat is 30ft , ™ length bv oft 6in in breadth, and Is fitted with wireless apparatus. The design 'shows a decided departure from any previouslv accepted form of ship s lifeboat. Their primary function is to tow ordinary rowing lifeboats. The wireless apparatus will have a range of about 100 to 150 miles for transmitting, enabling them to keep in constant communication with steamers in case of an emergency. The engine is protected by a close, compartment. and would consequently not be affected by heavy seas. •The two boats are fitted with T h croft four-cylinder motors of .>0 horsepower with reversible gear.
