Fishing in the Oreti river shortly after G o’clock on Monday evening, Mr A. W. Clark, of Kyat Bush, had the good fortune to land an exceptionally fine trout for these'parts. The fish turned the scale at ISlbs. -was 3ft in length and 21 inches in circumference at the thickest part. On Monday week Mr Clark also brought to land a trout weighing Itlbs. On both occasions he used McCarthy’s horn minnow. The first mentioned fish was on view yesterday in Messrs McCarthy’s window. A surplus of Territorials offering for service lias caused the Hon. James Allen to consider the case of the "conscieritious objector.” According to the Wellington Post, the Minister has said—“We shall soon be in the position of having more men enrolled than we require. If men are not keen about performing military duties, and are willing to do an equivalent amount of other work, we should let them do so. and keep the best men in the Territorials. I do not desire to have men in the Territorials who are not keen about their work.” But there is to be “no pandering." says the Minister; If agitators won't accept the equivalent to military scrvioe'tbey must take the consequences, but he is of the opinion that “when a scheme of alter--native service is provided-there will be very few conscientious objector*.” ; ;r
