A(nßopunnM& Mvanaa fob anass EKouro APBIL 11. —Wednesday, April 8. — Otautau stock sale. -—Thursday, April 9.—> - Ram Fair at Otautau. WAL3UAC2TTOWN STOOX SALE. EXCEPTIONALLY LARGE YARDING. RETARDS ANY MARKED ADVANCE. SEVERAL PASSED IN LOTS. The fortnightly stock sale at the Wallacetown yards yesterday was marked by quite the largest yarding of cattle and sheep which have been entered for many years past. The attendance of buyers, too. was a very largo one* but it was quite evident that an abnormal entry in many lines was the direct influence for periods of scragginess in«4he sale. The auctioneers had a very busy task to get through their large lots and the sale did not terminate until close on five o’clock. The yardings for yesterday compared with the two previous sales are shown In the fpllowing table :

With the biggest entry seen at Wallacetown in fat cattle heifers .and cows predominated, while the proportion of good bullocks was limited. Bidding opened quietly, but the sale had not proceeded very far when buyers .began to operate and the market took a healthier tone than marked its opening stages. From then on till three-quarters of the yarding had been disposed of. bidding was fairly brisk, and a good number of the animals yarded changed hands. . Latterly. however, the sale possessed a very dragging tendency and passed stuff was by no means uncommon. On the whole beef sold cheaper than prices lately ruling, but any decline was only slight. The large yarding of heifer and cow beef had a had effect on the sale of bullock beef, many of the butchers present filling their requirements with the former class of stuff. The result was that many of the bullocks were passed in unsold. On prices ruling yesterday for fat cattle quotations work out at the following figures :—Good beef. 2Ss to 29s per 100 ibs; heifer beef. 24s to 25s per lOOlbs; cow beef, 21s to 22s per lOOlbs. In fat sheep the figures given above show Urfit the yarding was an extra large one. It included some very nice, lines of fats in wethers, and a few hundred fat lambs. Considering the large entry forward prices all through were very good and practically the whole entry was sold. Freezing buyers of lambs and big sheep were operating up to good limits. There were one or two pens of good ewes in the yard and these lines were well competed for. bringing full prices. On yesterday's figures, values may be quoted : Extra heavy prime butchers' wethers. 22s to 235: medium. 20s 6d to 21s 6d; light and unfinished. ISs fid to 19s: extra prime ewes, ISs to 19s; medium. 16s Rd: unfinished and light sorts. Us 6d to 15s fid; fat lambs (extra good). ISs to ISs 6d; medium. 17s to 17s 3d; lighter. 15s 9d to 16s 3d. The store sheep sale was a very good one considering the extremely large entry of this class of sheep. Old ewes showed the most perceptible drop during the sale. The store cattle sale was a very druggy one. as was only to be expected with the abnormal yarding. There were a number of big framed cattle submited, but the bulk of the yarding by far comprised low conditioned and unfinished bred stock.
