The master butchers state that every shop in the metropolitan area will be opened to-day. They allege that many volunteers have offered. including a number of unionist shopmen. They also claim that 5009 farmers and their sons are ready to come from the country if needed. The men deny that any unionists are returning, hut a meeting will be held this forenoon at which the bailers will explain the position so far as the offer of the masters to re-engage unionists is concerned. Received Alarcli ;"i, 9.30 p.m. The Cabinet committee has substituted fresh proposals to the men's delegates, but details are withheld from the press. These were to be submitted to a mass meeting, but the Board of Enquiry decided to postpone the meeting till .Friday night in order to consider the proposals. Immediately all the big shops were opened there was a rush for meat but only a limited number of hands was available. Between 300 and too masters attended the abattoirs, either killing or carting. Only union labour was engaged. the abattoirs being public slaughtering pens. The Jlomehush slock market is very animated. Small supplies resuU--d in big pric-i-s being obtained. ft was stated late to-night that the result of negotiations with the butchers gives every prospect of an agreement between the nun ami the employers tomorrow.
