I.ONDOX, March deceived March 11.0 p.m. Tho Baptist Missionary Society roreived advice from Matadi in the middle of February showing that after peace was declared following the Rev. Howskill's efforts at mediation Ihe Portuguese officials arrested a number of native Christians. The effect was electrical and the war renewed. San Salvador was burnt, and the Portuguese driven within the fortress of Heorcg'lds, They were short of water and the insurrectionists shot every one trying to reach supplies. The. whole country was excited. The Bev. Bowskill (old Senlior Paulo, the Portuguese official in charge of the fortress, that his action had influenced the country and Paulo detained Mr Bowskill. Tile Rev. .T. Bowskill, an English Baptist missionary, was arrested by the Portuguese authorities in connection with his alleged action towards the recruiting by the Portuguese of native labour for the cocoa islands of San Thome and Principe.
