ACCLIMATISATION SOCIETY
MONTHLY MEETING. The monthly meeting of the Southland Acclimatisation Society was attended by Messrs Stout, president, Smith, McNamara < Leary, Pearce. Robertson. Russell, McKenzie. Sloan and Cowan. CORRESPONDENCE. John Vickery, secretary pro tern of the Southland Coursing Club, wrote on behalf of that body asking for financial support, and pointed out the increased revenue from licenses which had come to the Society since the Coursing Club was originally formed.—To be informed that the Council had no power to make a grant in the direction indicated. Messrs R. H. Hunter-Weston, Gleniti, and W. Fosbery Handyside, Invercargill, wrote on the matter of holders of deer stalking .licenses being given permission to shoot another head for a further fee. —The Society having already decided against such a step for the present year and the secretary having notified the writers of the Society's decision, the letters were received. The Under-Secretary of the Department of Internal Affairs, requested the Society to furnish any suggestions it desired to make as to the dates of the deer stalking season in Southland, and other particulars usually contained in the regulations as far as this district is concerned. —Referred to the Stock Committee. James Phillips and Charles Brazier forwarded an application to have their property at Nightcaps declared a sanctuary. —Received. The Under-Secretary of Internal Affairs notified that the Minister was unable to make any change in the godwlt shooting season. The matter would be further considered by the Minister before next season.—Received. REPORTS. The Ranger's report and Stock Committee's report were received. FINANCE. rn Accounts amounting to thirty-eight pounds twelve shillings were passed for payment.
