OBITUARY
MRS WILLIAM AITKEX. On -Saturday last at her residence, •'Athole," Yarrow street, Mrs William Aitken, one of -Southland’s earliest settlers, passed away. The deceased lady was the only daughter of the late Mr Jno. Fraser, of Otakia, Otago, and was born at Eyemouth, Scotland, in 1846. When 16 years of age she came out to New Zealand with her parents. In 1869 she was married, and since then has resided in various parts of Southland. In 1910 Mr and Mrs Aitken retired from farming', and came to Invercargill, building a nice house in Yarrow street east, where after a short illness she died on Saturday last. She was of a bright and cheery disposition and made many friends wherever she went. She was ever ready to do anyone a good turn, and in times of sickness her aid was much sought after. She is survived by her husband, two daughters and six sons, to whom is extended the sympathy of numerous friends. The funeral took place on Tuesday, January 20th. at Wyndham, service?; being conducted by the Rev. J. W. Shaw and the Rev.- R. M. Ryburn at the house- and by the Rev. Mr McLennan at the grave-side.
