The Church Congress will be opened at Southampton on Wednesday. A stern fight is promised over women’s rights, as suffragists and ariti-suffragists are engaged in active educational propaganda outside the Congress. Regrettable incidents are threatened.
AN UNAPPRECIATED JOKE.
LONDON, Sept. 30,
A boatload of ladles hoaxed army detectives guarding Ministers at Brodrick Castle. They rowed in a small boat in the direction of the landing stage, frantically waving a green flag. The police lined the stage to resist", and the ladles, enjoying the trick, then rowed away. The detectives- did not appreciate the joke.
MISTAKEN FOR A SUFFRAGETTE.

The Archbishop, of York was descending from the. Communion table at the conclusion of the consecration of Bishops when an elderly lady rushed forward, prostrated herself pn the ground, and seized his robes. Officials removed her, believing she was a suffragette. They afterwards learned that the lady was deeply religious, but highly emotional.
