DISAPPEARING ISLANDS
SUBMARINE SUBSIDENCE. (By Telegraph,—Press Association.—Copyright). SYDNEY. May TS. Received May 19, 12.26 a.m. A Dutch steamer from the East reports severe submarine disturbances off the south-east coast of Java. A subsidence of the sea bottom caused nearly all the Sudoetung Islands to disappear. Some were mere sandbanks, and others had small portions above sea level. .
