The underwriters have received a cable that the Norwegian steamer Mektor, from Baltimore to Australia, is ashore on Kyea Islands, ''ape Colony, and Is expected to become a total loss. COASTAL STEAMER OVERDUE. WELLINGTON, March 30. The steamer John, which left Lyttelton at 1.30 p.m. on Thursday for Wellington, has not yet been heard of . She had only sufficient coal for two days, and Is believed to have been blown out to sea by the heavy north-west gale. The John carried 330 tons produce for Wellington and Wanganui. If not soon heard of it Is feared that she will need assistance.
